Pokémon Go makes AR Available to Everyone
We love to see when AR becomes more accessible to every-day people.
In July of 2016, Niantic and the Pokémon Company released a free-to-play app for iOS and Android devices. The app uses AR to place Pokémon and Pokémon gyms in the area around the players (for example, water Pokémon are found near water). Players can interact with the AR Pokémon, as well as battle with other players using the app.
Pokémon GO is a testament to the rapidness that AR can scale to every person with a smartphone or tablet. The usage and popularity of this app is astounding, and growing every day. It will soon extend to technical and support use cases for the average consumer, beyond entertainment and gaming.
